Social Security Disability – “Joe knows”

March 5, 2012

Question: Joe, can you tell me about Social Security Disability? I am interested in finding it out for some family members.

Joe:  You know Social Security Disability is one of those government programs that a lot of people don’t know about but it is really the Social Security System, which you pay in over the years for your payroll system that you can collect on early.  You can collect retirement early if you meet certain disability requirements and you have to not be able to do work any more for specific periods of time. Those criteria are set by the Social Security Administration. You are able to collect on your retirement benefits early if you meet those disability criteria. It involves, the younger you are, the harder it is. The older you are, the easier it is. Usually it gets involved in a situation where people have a serious accident and Social Security Disability is really their only long-term disability policy because most people don’t buy long-term disability. It is something people should always examine and they usually need a lawyer to help them out.
